Massacre at Jaito (1924)
As protest against the interruption of Akhand
Path (non-stop recitation of teh scriptures) at Jaito during the Nabha
Agitation, batches of 500 Singhs proceeded daily towards Jaito. On February
21, the police opened fire on the group, killing twenty Singhs on the spot
and wounding more than one hundred. Nabha Agitation exercised such an impact
on the public that even Jawahar Lal Nehru accompanied by Sh. Santnam and
Didwani courted imprisonment. |
